China is the number one contributor of carbon dioxide in the world. 80% of the electricity supply in China comes from coal-fired power plants, which is one of the major culprits causing greenhouse effect. Air conditioners consume up to 40% of the available energy during the summer.
To combat this, Ogilvy Shanghai proposed to Midea to reconfigure and reconstruct every remote control device to include an Eco Button. The Eco Button automatically sets the temperature at 26°C or 78.8°F. As recommended by WWF China, 26°C is the most ideal temperature setting during summer to save energy thus reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
